forums backwards

Is it the intention and feature (i.e. a bug) that the forums, when read, are now backwards?  When I click on a subject, the messages in the thread are listed newest to oldest from top to bottom and page 1 to x (where x is the total number of pages in that thread.)

Unfortunately it affects the entire forum, not a personal option yet. I might be able to find a plug in that allows you to set it in user preference.

Yes you can.
 
Under "Profile" there is a section that says "Look and Layout".  You have several options listed there.  To display the newest post at the top of the page select the check box next to "Show most recent posts at the top. "
 and click save.
